This year is the first time that a husband and wife team creates the annual Junebug sculpture. Robert Russo, Robyn Trimboli-Russo and their daughter, Annabella, have been Metuchen residents for 15 years.
The 2014 sculpture is an arch fabricated from recycled metal tubing that is tall enough for participants to walk under / through. Visitors are encouraged to write a message on a piece of vinyl material that will be attached to hooks on the metal tubing.
“The 2014 Junebug sculpture has been a family affair, with everyone contributing to the concept,” said Robyn. “The sculpture will be less representational of the bug itself and more focused on being interactive. The intention is to engage the viewer and allow them to feel like they are a part of the Junebug experience.”
Robert, a graduate of Pratt Institute, has spent the last 24 years in the publishing industry as a designer and art director. In his spare time, he enjoys designing and building furniture from wood and/or steel.
Robyn attended the School of Visual Arts, worked as a designer/illustrator at various publications for over 15 years and is currently the owner of Metuchen Creative Studios. She also teaches art privately and is currently working on illustrating a series of children’s books.
