Center Hours: The Center is open from 9:00AM to 2:30PM. Please refer to the current calendar for times for classes and activities. Appointments for minibus service must be made by 2:00PM on the day preceding the service.

Newsletter and Calendar available online: Newsletters are no longer being mailed. They are available on the minibus and at the Metuchen Senior Center as well as online. www.metuchennj.org (Select Departments, then Senior Center). Borough of Metuchen Residential Recycling Collection Schedules are also available at the Metuchen Senior Center.

Center Closing: The Center will be closed on Monday, July 5. Appointments for minibus service for Tuesday, July 6 must be made by 2PM on Friday, July 2.

Independence Day Concert: The Metuchen Cultural Arts Commission will present the Brio Symphonic Band in an Independence Day Concert on Sunday, July 4 at 5:30PM on the Metuchen High School Lawn.

Trip: A bus trip to Trump Casino in Atlantic City is scheduled for Tuesday, July 27 leaving from Edgar School/Municipal Pool parking lot at the end of Lake Ave. in Metuchen at 9AM and returning approximately 7:00PM. The cost is $20 per person and includes a return of $20 in slot cash. Reservations for Metuchen residents will begin on Tuesday, July 13 at 9:00AM; all others may reserve beginning on Wednesday, July 14 at 9:00AM. Payment must be made at the time of reservation.
Make checks payable to “Borough of Metuchen.”

Blood Pressure Screening: JFK Hartwyck will sponsor a free blood pressure screening on Thursday, July 8 from 1:00-2:00PM. Appointments are not necessary.

Play Reading Group: The play reading group will meet on Thursday, July 1 where the group will continue reading Arthur Miller’s After the Fall, and Thursday, July 15 at 12:30PM where the group will begin reading Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw.

Video Movie The video movie Up in the Air, starring George Clooney will be shown on Wednesday, July 21 at 12:00PM.

Knit and Crochet: The knit and crochet group will meet on the 2nd Wednesday, July 14 and 4th Wednesday, July 28 at 1:00PM. This group makes handcrafted items for donation to area hospitals and social service agencies.

Foot Doctor: Dr. Macy will be at the Center on Wednesday, July 7 from 9:30AM to 2:30PM to provide routine foot care. The cost is $10 for those with Medicare coverage. Appointments are necessary and may be made by calling 732-632-8524. Those with Medicare HMO coverage must have a referral from the primary care physician.

New Tai Chi Classes: A new 9-week session of Qigong and Tai Chi will begin Friday, July 2. Quigong will be offered from 10:30-11:20AM and will review in depth the basic principles and practice of Four Seasons/Health Maintenance Quigong. Wellness through Tai Chi will be offered from 11:30AM to 12:15PM. The first half of the class will introduce the principles of calmness, relaxation, posture, balance and coordination. It will provide instruction in the first set of Tai Chi Qigong exercises and the first half of the Simplified Tai Chi Form. The second half of the class is recommended for those who have completed the first half of the Simplified Form and will receive instruction in several more Qigong exercises and the remaining movements of the Simplified Form.

All participants, whether new or experienced, must register by calling the Senior Center at 732-632-8524.

Shopping Trips: The following shopping trips are scheduled

  • Menlo Park Mall OR Target: Monday, July 12 at 10:00AM
  • Walmart: Monday, July 19 at 10:00AM
  • Shoprite: Monday, July 26 at 11:30AM

Reservations are required in advance for all shopping trips and may be made by calling for the minibus at 732-632-8525.

What’s New? The next session of What’s New at Your Center will be held Friday, July 16th at 10AM to discuss future casino trips and other topics of interest to you! We would appreciate your suggestions for programs we could offer at the Senior Center!

Coffee Donations: We are gladly accepting donations of coffee to make fresh each morning at the Center!
