The Young Adult department of the Metuchen Public Library announces the following free programs for all residents who will be entering 6th through 12th grade in September. Registration begins on Saturday, June 4 and remains open until the classes fill. Sign up by at the Library or by calling on 732.632.8526 or by writing KLiss@Lmxac.org. Everyone who signs up at the Library on June 4 between 10 AM and 1 PM will receive a free paperback book.

Young Adult Programs (Gr.6-12)

Babysitter Safety Training and Certification Class: A healthcare professional from the Raritan Bay Medical Center will conduct a hands-on workshop that includes childcare lessons and safety training for the middle- school-aged babysitter.
Date: Wednesday, June 29;
Time: 1-4 PM

Stitches: It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 afternoons! Learn to crochet, to follow a pattern and to make a simple project.
Dates: July 5, 6, and 12;
Time: 1-2 PM

Theatre Games: Youth Stages will lead an evening of improvisations and theatre games.
Date: Tuesday, July 12;
Time: 7-8:45 PM

Cupcake Decorating 101: Make frosting from scratch and learn to pipe icing to decorate cupcakes. Students take home cupcakes, recipes, decorating tips, etc.
Date: Wednesday, July 13;
Time: Choose from two sessions: A. 10:30 AM-Noon or B. 2PM-3:30 PM

Write Your Own Adventure: Join Alex Dawson, author and owner of the Raconteur, for a 3-session fiction-writing workshop.
Dates: Thursday, July 14, 21 and 28;
Time: 7PM-8:30 PM

Songwriting Workshop: The group will write, rehearse and record an original song with songwriter Kathy Moser.
Date: Tuesday, July 19;
Time: 2-4PM

The Midas Touch: Explore the medieval art of illuminations that uses gold to embellish letters, words and illustrations. Then create your own modern day illumination with Mickey Waring, director of the Westerhoff School.

Robotics Workshop: In this hands-on session, you’ll learn the language of robots, how to teach them commands and to run a maze.

Pasta and Pesto: Mrs. B. returns, this time to teach you how to make homemade pasta and pesto sauce (nut-free). Hands on; students will take home pasta to cook, along with the pesto and recipes.
