Swimming enthusiasts are invited to join The Metuchen Municipal Pool Swim to Fight Cancer on July 29th, 2012 from 7:30am-10:30am at the Metuchen Municipal Pool Swim. The Metuchen Pool Swim will be hosted by Swim Across America [SAA], a non-profit dedicated to raising money for cancer research, prevention and treatment since 1987. This inspired morning at the pool will include swimmers of all ages and skill levels and unite the swimmers of the Metuchen community to swim in honor or memory of those that have battled cancer. This year marks the 5th year the swim has taken place.

Each swimmer is encouraged to register online at www.swimacrossamerica.org/Metuchen2012 and raise money prior to the swim in hopes of reaching a $15,000 goal for the event.

Melissa Karlovitch and Susan Wilcox are the Event Directors for the Metuchen Municipal Pool Swim, and began the annual event in the summer of 2008. The Metuchen swimmers have tracked their “mileage” since the inaugural event. This year, they are hoping to virtually swim from Chicago to St. Louis, the site of the 1904 Olympics. Adding to the Olympic connection of the event, they will have 1980 U.S. Olympic Team member and former World Record Holder, Craig Beardsley in attendance to sign autographs and work with the swimmers.

Swim Across America has raised over $25,000,000 since 1987 engaging swimmers across the country in open water swims. The Metuchen Municipal Pool Swim is a member of the SAA POOL PROGRAM – a united country-wide effort to hold fundraising pool swims throughout the year to support cancer research, prevention and treatment. The Metuchen Swim was the first Swim Across America Pool Program event anywhere in the country. This program has now grown to include approximately 50 pool swims this year across the nation.
