“It’s for such a great cause!” emails Melissa Karlovitch, director of the Metuchen Swim Across America program. “The kids are trying to swim as many laps as they can to make it across America someday” she adds. The event started 2 years ago and this year if the Metuchen swimmers put in 157 miles they’ll make it to the Ohio border. All of the money raised goes to cancer research, treatment and prevention grants.

“As of today we have 70 swimmers registered and have raised close to $5,000 so far this year. This is MMP’s third year doing the Swim 4 A Cure. In the past two year combined we have raised just over $15,000 for cancer research and swam about 180 miles. Last summer, Swim Across America sent three former Olympic swimmers to swim with the team at MMP and sign autographs. MMP was also recognized this past spring by SAA with a volunteerism award for our effort sin the first two years of this swim. She thanks Pack 69 Cub Scouts and two local Metuchen based Girl Scout troops who will be volunteering to help run the event.
