For more than 25 years, Janice served as the Health and Fitness Director at the Metuchen Branch YMCA. Through her years of service, Janice touched many people. With a kind word or a challenging fitness class, she made their lives better.

Janice was tireless in her efforts to improve the health and well being of not only the YMCA members and families that she served, but for the community as a whole. She founded the Metuchen Branch Annual 5K Run, held every year in Roosevelt Park. The run originated as a fundraiser. This was Janice’s way of reaching out to the community and demonstrating that, by coming together in celebration around a single event, we can make a difference in the lives of the children and families in our community.

In June of 2002, Janice lost her battle with breast cancer. And while we are reminded of her loss everyday, we have chosen to remember and celebrate who she was, what she stood for and all the wonderful things she believed in by the inception of the Janice Garbolino Memorial 5K Run benefiting the Scholarship Fund named in her honor. Through this, her spirit lives on.

All proceeds of the Janice Garbolino 5K will support LIVESTRONG™ at the YMCA program, a physical activity and wellness program for cancer survivors.
