metuchen-firstIt’s always ALWAYS, a delight to see a new business open in our downtown Metuchen. And it’s doubly delightful if it’s a business where gastronomic surprises are to be had! Enter on the corner of Main Street and Route 27 (Lincoln Avenue) – the La Gateaux Fine Bakery and Coffee Shop! It’s a French style fine bakery and a coffee shop offering wonderful confections such as cakes, pastries, coffee, espresso, latte, Cappuccino, orange juice, smoothies…etc.

We happen to stop by and was greeted by the very affable owner/chef Mina who gave us a rundown of what they have in store. As he mentioned, they try to keep the highest quality for all their products and he couldn’t be more proud. He gleefully guided us to what’s on display and even was willing to prepare a fresh pot of coffee himself. They deliver and have free WIFI! Woot!

They serve breakfast from 7:00am. They recommend to try the Moe’s egg: roasted red pepper, onion, egg and cheese on fresh Croissant! We heard it from somebody that it’s DELICIOUS! And by the way, their Grand Opening is on Sunday, March 2 at 10am. Local officials will be there and Mina will prepare a special cake in the shape of Metuchen. Ok, we’re scratching our head on how that cake would look like. So if you’re curious, come on down on Sunday morning and join the opening festivities!

Some of the things said about La Gateaux on Yelp:

From Christine G.
My family & I have already tried several of the pastries here – delicious! The coffee is amazing too – the owner said he tried many coffees to find the right blend – great job! Plenty of seating, great natural lighting, tv, music, wifi and parking available (or use street parking). They’ll be adding more pastries and sandwiches, and all of their products are nut-free! Cannoli lovers will be very happy. My son tried their strawberry banana smoothie – refreshing! Staff is warm & friendly too.

From Marian S.
I visited La Gatesux just a few days after they opened. The owner is a lovely gentleman who warmly answered our questions about their baked goods. My husband and I shared a chocolate pastry. He also got a cappuccino. Both were delish! The owner said they are soon going to be expanding their offerings to include breakfast and lunch. They have a wide selection of pastries and whole cakes as well. The space is large and bright with a huge picture window, allowing loads of natural light. I hope this place is here for a long time!
