It’s almost done! And it’s beautiful already!

Titled “SUMMER”. The first phase of Mud Making Magic, Metuchen’s Community Mural Project was installed Wednesday, May 27. The mural is located on exterior of the storage building on Grove Avenue by the Tennis courts.

On Wednesday they will “mosaic” the interior sections with bits of glass and mirror and then the entire piece will be grouted. Anyone wishing to add their own magic to the mural and help with the “mosaic’ portion, do join them at 8:30am, Wednesday, June 3!

This project allows everyone who wish to create an original tile for a section of the mural, each wall of which will reflect one season of the year. This first mural incorporates images and words specific to “summer in Metuchen,” and a series of learning / working sessions on weekends in March at the Senior Center.

The project is led and overseen by ceramic artist Linda Vonderschmidt-LaStella (Earthsongs Ceramic Studio, Metuchen). She developed the overall design, fire and glaze the work and assist all of the other volunteers and participants.

So next time, you’re crying along Grove Avenue. Check out ‘SUMMER’!
