Swim Across America – Metuchen 2013
For the 6th year in a row, the Metuchen Municipal Pool Swim & Dive Team and membership community came together on an early Sunday morning in support of Swim Across America and the annual Swim 4 A Cure. Swim Across America, Inc., [SAA] is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming- related events.
An amazing outpouring of support from the Metuchen Community and local Employers highlighted this year’s event. Main event sponsor Celegene Corporation, a global biopharmaceutical company committed to improving the lives of patients worldwide, saw to it that each participant received a Swim Across America t-shirt. In addition major supporter Rust-Oleum came back to pay for breakfast for all swimmers and volunteers.
Metuchen’s generous Main Street business have also joined on board to help raise money for this cause, including La Rosa Pizza, What’s The Scoop, Main Street Trattoria and Hailey’s Harp & Pub. A special Highlight to this year’s event included stretching sessions with the Satori Academy and professional DJ serves being donated by Mike Malone of Music n’ Motion Entertainment.
This year the participants of Swim 4 A Cure swam over 9,000 laps for a total 198.14 miles and have raised nearly $8,000 for cancer research. Donations to support the team can still be made at www.swimacrossamerica.org/metuchen.
The event’s planning committee would like to extend a huge thank you to the Pool Commission and management of the Metuchen Municipal Pool. Also to the numerous community volunteers who came out to counts laps (& bake muffins) – the Girl Scouts of Troops 80743 and 80611, Boy Scouts from Troop 17 and the CCD Confirmation candidates from St. Francis Cathedral.
