Arts Council sponsors tour of Philadelphia

The Metuchen Arts Council is sponsoring a bus trip to Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 4th that will take in the Picasso exhibition the Barnes Foundation, lunch at the Reading Terminal Market and a guided bus tour of the city’s extraordinary murals.
The Barnes show, Picasso: The Great War, Experimentation and Changes, shows how, Picasso alternated his pictorial style, switching from cubism to a more legible and naturalistic style.  The exhibition also brings to life the vivid personalities and turbulence of Paris during World War I.  There will be a docent led tour plus free time to explore the Barnes’ new home.
Next stop is lunch and time to wander through the historic Reading Terminal Market.  Dating back to 1892, this enclosed public market boasts over 100 merchants offering prepared foods, fresh produce, flowers, crafts and much more.
Before leaving the City of Brotherly Love, a guide will join the group for a lively bus tour of the city’s famous collection of murals created under the auspices of Mural Arts Program at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
The bus leaves the Metuchen Pool Parking lot on Lake Avenue at 8 A.M. and returns at 6 P.M.  The cost is $73 per person and includes transportation, admission to the Barnes Foundation exhibit with docent, and a guided bus tour of the murals of Philadelphia.  Lunch is on your own.
