METUCHEN — As a father and husband, Michael Fuccile was one of the best, his wife, Nancy, said.

When his young children wanted to go on the water rides at an amusement park on a cool day, it was Michael Fuccile who agreed to join them on the chilly adventure.

“He coached Little League. He was a hands-on father, one of the best. He was a great guy,” Nancy Fuccile said. “He was a kind man. He always wore a smile.”

Michael Fuccile, 36, was stabbed to death Sept. 4, 2008, during an unprovoked attack while waiting for a light-rail train at the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station in Liberty State Park, Jersey City, as he was heading to his job as a compliance officer for Merrill Lynch.

“My husband was in the wrong place at the wrong time. There was no talking. He just came up and started stabbing him. It was an unfortunate circumstance,” she said.

The man responsible for Fuccile’s death, who was tackled by a bystander, was found not guilty by reason of insanity and is now at a mental institution, Fuccile said, adding that the attacker has no recollection of what he did.
