Thin crust, buffalo mozzarella, brick oven or New York traditional?!? However you take it, Metuchen’s got its fair share of pizzerias for every taste palette! On Friday October 7th at from 6:30pm to 8:30pm join the Mt. Zion Lodge #135 of Free & Accepted Masons and the Metuchen Downtown Alliance for their inaugural “Metuchen Pizza Throwdown” where they’ll be celebrating all the great pizzerias in Metuchen.

Metuchen is known for all of its restaurants, but its pizzerias are held in high esteem by patrons near and far with whopping 7 pizzerias in the 2.5 mile community. The inaugural event hopes to showcase all of the local pizzerias while raising money to local charities. Participating pizzerias include: D’Novo, Buon Appetito, Mangia Toscano, Joey D’s, Antonio’s, La Rosa, & What’s the Scoop.

“We’re excited about this event and thought this is a great way to highlight all the delicious pizzas in our town and raise awareness to the Masons and the charitable work we do. We hope to make this an annual event and we’re excited about having 100% participation by all local restaurants!” said Jake Shulman of the Masons and an organizer of the event.

While the “throwdown” is set up as a contest, the pizzeria owners are excited about showcasing their delicious pies and view the event as all in good fun to help promote the downtown and raise money for a good cause.

“Metuchen is a great community and as pizzeria owners, we all work together. I remember back when Hurricane Sandy hit, some of the local shops didn’t have electricity, supplies etc. and we all worked together to help each other. That’s what we do here, that’s what we’re about. This will be a fun, friendly competition for us, but at the end of the day we ALL succeed with the success of one another in Metuchen.” from Jason Coppola of Antonio’s Brick Oven Pizzeria, Metuchen business owner for over 20 years.

Tickets are $10 each and will get you a taste of all 7 pizzeria pies, a soft drink and a ballot to cast your vote. Doors open at 6:30pm and the winner will be announced at 8pm.

Location is Mason Lodge: 483 Middlesex Avenue Metuchen, NJ 08840
