Plein Air Painting Competition: Painting outdoors throughout the evening
Location: Outdoor spaces on Main and New Streets
Plein Air Painters…those artists who take their materials outside and create complete work right there on location…have been invited to “Paint the Junebug”. Once their painting is complete, we are inviting them to submit them to the Junebug Committee at the Registration table.

Beginning Friday, June 15, all the plein air paintings will be exhibited at VAM, Metuchen’s newest art gallery. where they will be juried by two professional painters and voted on by all who visit. Awards for “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice” will be given the final night of Junebug June 29, 8pm at VAM Gallery, 15 Station Place.

Window Galleries: Throughout June, Original Art is on Display and for sale
Location: Retail windows and indoor spaces along Main New Streets

Since the Junebug is a wonderful collaboration between the arts and business communities, the exhibition of artwork in the store windows along Main Street has been a natural fir right from the beginning. Please take time to enjoy the “walking gallery”. Most of our artists with work in the windows are with us this evening so should you have a question, you might meet them along the way. And better still, many of them will return next Friday with additional work.

Community Mural: All Fridays
Location: Near Junebug Sculpture 460 Main Street

A new feature at the ArtFest this year is the Community Mural. Large boards are available near the Junebug Sculpture, along with a variety of art-making materials. These five are sections of one large mural, and contain the basic outline that will help unite them when finally assembled.

Everyone who visits the ArtFest is invited to add to the mural with color and shape, an image, object, photos, etc. Work on the mural will continue throughout all the five weeks of the ArtFest. At the end, a loca artist will put the finishing touches on the mural to bring it together and make it come alive.

We encourage all to add your mark to the mural. Spend some time with it. Be bold. Add your own lovely color.
