What Is A Municipal Alliance?

The Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA) was established by the Legislature to be an independent body that would review and coordinate New Jersey’s efforts regarding the education, prevention, treatment, research and evaluation for, and public awareness of, alcoholism and drug abuse.

The GCADA maintains and administers the Municipal Alliance Program, a network of volunteer driven municipally based education and public awareness programs.

The Municipal Alliance Committee (MAC) is the heart of each community’s prevention efforts. These committees bring together representatives from local governmental bodies, the educational system, the health care community, law enforcement, business, labor, religious leaders, civic associations, social entities, and the community at large. MACs determine the kind and scope of prevention initiatives that are best suited to their communities.

The Metuchen Municipal Alliance Committee members are appointed by the Mayor, with Council confirmation
