Back by popular demand, the Metuchen Police Department has launched a trading card contest for Metuchen children. These trading cards are designed to provide a comfortable way for Officers to interact with kids, and a familiar way for kids to get to know their local Police Officers.

The front of each card shows a photo of an officer. The back of the card contains bio information or a personal or safety message from the officer. The goal of the program is to reach as many children as possible with a message that enhances communication and trust. The program is being sponsored by a number of local businesses.

The cards are in and the contest is underway. Children are encouraged to approach Metuchen’s finest and ask them for their trading card. The first three children that collect all 30 trading cards and bring them to Police Headquarters will win a $20 gift certificate from one of three local businesses, Antonio’s Brick Oven Pizza, LaRosa’s Pizzeria, or What’s The Scoop. Trading card posters are on display at Moss, Campbell and Edgar Schools, the Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce office, and in many of the local businesses. Children can check the status of their collection by comparing it to one of the posters.

The winners will be announced and will receive their prize at the Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Christmas Tree Lighting scheduled for Friday, December 3, at 7:00 pm.

Questions regarding the contest should be directed to Daniel Granato, Community Policing Officer, at 732-632-8500.
