THE METUCHEN ARTS COUNCIL is inviting everyone who wishes to help create a ceramic mural to cover the entire exterior of the storage building on Grove Ave.

This project will allow everyone who wishes to create an original tile for a section of the mural, each wall of which will reflect one season of the year. We will develop the mural on one wall each year, beginning with “Summer” in 2014. This first mural will incorporate images and words specific to “summer in Metuchen,” and a series of learning / working sessions will take place on weekends in March at the Senior Center.
The project will be led and overseen by ceramic artist Linda Vonderschmidt-LaStella (Earthsongs Ceramic Studio, Metuchen). She will develop the overall design, fire and glaze the work and assist all of the others.
Once the paper cartoon of the design is completed, the shape of each section will be traced on slabs of clay, irregular shapes of roughly 12″x12″. For $25 (to pay for materials and firing) each participant will receive one of those shapes to sculpt, impress and create their own original section.
